Located in a pleasant building a block away from the Rijksmuseum, Aalders is a good pick for those seeking a more serene, quiet getaway in the Vondelpark neighborhood.

The single and double rooms on the cheapo end of the Aalders' price range are a bit of a tight squeeze, but that's largely because of the size of the beds. (Don't ask us why, but in a country with some of the world's tallest people, many of the hotels have bafflingly small beds. Not here.) Décor here is classic and cool. Textured walls in beige and cream stripes offset dark carpeted floors, heavy bedspreads and pre-fab furniture. Bathrooms are large and efficient and offer hairdryers.

Note: The rooms facing the back have nice balconies where you can enjoy a view of the lush neighborhood garden.
