If you can reserve one of the three cute, cozy rooms at the Frederic Guesthouse, you'll be in for a unique experience. And even if all the rooms are full, the owners can help you find another room among its network of bed and breakfast town homes in the Grachtengordel.
The entryway, hallways and rooms at the Frederic are a friendly chaos of assorted trinkets, art prints and vintage castoffs. Especially endearing is the randomly patterned tilework in the shared bathrooms. One room comes with a jacuzzi and a water bed, and if that doesn't pique your interest, hopefully the piano in the hallway will.
Best of all, the Frederic rents bikes, and its location at the foot of the gorgeous Brouwersgracht is an ideal jumping-off point for your two-wheel explorations of Amsterdam’s canals.

Grachtengordel West is an expansive area in the center of town, near the Dam and the Old Center. It's also home to gorgeous 17th-century canal houses, Westermarkt, the Homomonument, the Westerkerk (Amsterdam's grandest church and the final resting place of Rembrandt) and Anne Frank's House.
