Location is key at the one-star Gay Hotel The Golden Bear, one of Amsterdam's most venerable gay hotels. This section of the Kerkstraat where the hotel is located is among the most happening hubs of Amsterdam's gay scene.
The Gay Hotel the Golden Bear, housed in an 18th-century townhouse, offers 17 rooms with a dash of personality. The furniture is low-key and the walls are painted in crisp, bright colors. Conveniences include a television, coffee maker, DVD player, mini-fridge and fan. Rooms at the front of the hotel get fantastic views of the Kerkstraat.
In the downstairs lobby, dim natural lighting offsets pastel throw pillows and floral prints on colorful accent walls.
Wi-Fi is free throughout. Note: Gay Hotel The Golden Bear has steep stairs—and no elevator.

About the Gay Hotel the Golden Bear neighborhood
The most elegant area within the city center, Grachtengordel South features opulent residences, mansion-lined streets and a hot nightlife scene. The area boasts both Rembrandtplein (the city's one-time butter market) and Leidseplein (a former horse and buggy drop-off point). Both squares have been reborn as hot spots for bars, clubs, restaurants and no small number of tourist traps.
