In our opinion, the only reason to stay at the Hotel de Gerstekorrel is if you want something predictable along the Dam Straat, close to the train station and surrounded by the main shopping streets.
The Gerstekorrel provides 32 affordable two-star rooms in a convenient spot. De Gerstekorrel is on Amsterdam's central thoroughfare, making it a bit noisy but worth it for the location. The rooms are basic, clean and furnished with functional, boring furniture. Drop ceilings invade the airspace. Private bathrooms are clean and nicely tiled.
