We used to call the Fantasia Hotel "The Ultimate Dutch Experience" because the hotel's former owners, Adrie and Trudie, packed the hotel full of all things bovine: cow paintings, cow prints, fabrics, porcelain figurines, and more packed the rooms and lined the halls. The Fantasia was a charming Dutch country cottage straight from a fairy tale.
Well, the country cottage got purchased by some wired and inspired hippies, and they're determined to put on an entertaining show. It's now called the Luckytravellers Fantasia Hotel. The cows are still there, but now they've got a little competition.
We spent two fun nights at the Fantasia. One of our singles was quite narrow, but we could move around just fine and loved the dramatic garden view out back. And yes, we did have a framed print of a bovine hanging above the bed. Another long single, this one with a clean shared bath, overlooked the front door and canal.
The Luckytravellers Fantasia is centrally located on the edge of Plantagebuurt, a short canal walk to most of central Amsterdam. We actually preferred this location to the hotel we'd just stayed in on Warmostraat, in the heart of the Red Light District. The streets were less crowded during the day and the street scene at night was easier to deal with.
