Located along the very busy Marnixstraat, the Hotel la Boheme offers 18 well-kept rooms with contemporary budget-style in a central spot, one block from the National Theater and the Leidseplein.
We were immediately taken with the cheery, bright reception, and bar area, where we chatted with Majel Tromp, one of the Boheme's owners, and played with Mimi the cat. Cool modern art and arty photographs hang on the walls, elegantly spot lit. You know the look.
In the rooms, furniture is prefab fresh, and every room provides work desks, lamps, chairs, and new blue carpets. Baths are neat and clean. Though we saw one room that was so small the bathroom door couldn't open all the way, others were more spacious. We preferred rooms on the higher floors to the few in the basement, and would suggest requesting any of the 10 rooms facing the backyard to avoid the rush of traffic out front.
