We love hotel owners like Alex Rosendal, who let rooms on offer speak for themselves, before telling us about his elaborate plans for improving the family-friendly three-star in the future.
About those rooms: red is the color of choice, gracing carpets and bedspreads. The furniture is simple, and photos on the walls depict classic Amsterdam themes (think boats and flowers). Bathrooms are modern, with walls covered in the ubiquitous white tile. All rooms have free Wi-Fi and flat screen TVs.
Rooms at the front of the hotel look out on a quiet street, while rooms in back offer views of a neighborhood garden. Breakfast is served in the Witsen's bar, where you can also stop for a drink after a day out sightseeing.
