Situated in the Raadhuisstraat building in central Amsterdam, the one-star Hotel Pax offers affordable rooms with decorative flair. The steep, swirling staircase to the reception area and a dizzying array of mirrors lend the place a trippy Alice-in-Wonderland feel.
The 11 guestrooms at the Hotel Pax are spacious and sport either '80s-style checkerboard floors or good, old-fashioned linoleum. Rooms are equipped with a work desk, mini-fridge, free Wi-Fi and cable TV. Some rooms offer garden views, while the rooms facing the front of the hotel offer balconies with sweeping views of the city bustle (ask ahead).
The bathrooms, both private and shared, are clean and simple (although considering how many people you may have to share with, we'd recommend springing for the private facilities).
The Raadhuisstraat building also houses the Hotel Aspen.

About the Hotel Pax neighborhood
Grachtengordel West is an expansive area in the center of town, near the Dam and the Old Center. It's also home to gorgeous 17th-century canal houses, Westermarkt, the Homomonument, the Westerkerk (Amsterdam's grandest church and the final resting place of Rembrandt) and Anne Frank's House.
