Located in a solid art deco building adjacent to Dam Square, the three-star Rho offers 170 rooms in the heart of old Amsterdam. The lobby and reception area, which were formerly part of a theater, still sport the red-carpet floors and charm that recall the building's dramatic past.

Rooms have low ceilings and basic wood work desks. Curtains and bedding come in shades of red, and the occasional piece of framed abstract art hangs on the wall. Amenities include a minifridge, minibar, and internet access. White-tiled bathrooms are basic and efficient.

As an added bonus, 40 parking spots are available at the Rho. (If you're driving into Amsterdam, these shouldn't be overlooked).
