Our team of Cheapos couldn't decide what we liked best about the Hotel Wynnobel. There's Jon, our friendly host, plus an excellent Vondelpark location and the smattering of antiques throughout this bed-and-breakfast.
Technophobes, welcome. Technophiles, beware! Forget about the muffled noises of a neighbor's television or the buzzing of an office fax machine. There's only one telephone—Jon's. As for the Internet—are you crazy? This is a respectable 1930s establishment. And, did we mention the Wynnobel only accepts cash? What do you get in return for this technological abstinence? Silence. We swear we heard it in the lobby, the halls, and the rooms.
The Wynnobel has 11 rooms characterized by high ceilings and somber decor. Sturdy wooden furniture, funky candlesticks, and framed sketches create a homey atmosphere. Grandma, is that you? Rooms in the back face foliage in the yard. The ones in front have soundproofed windows, not that the sounds from Vondelpark are much to hear.
In summary, the Wynnobel is a winner plain and simple. Call to make a reservation because the only other way to contact Jon is by post. Breakfast is served in your room.
