With a prime location atop Amsterdam’s city center, Centraal Station acts as both a meeting point and focal point for the city. Approximately 1,400 trains operate from here daily and buses and trams terminate just in front of its doors. The station also serves as the first stop for three of Amsterdam’s main metro lines.
Situated on top of three man-made islands and supported by more than 8,000 wooden piles, the station’s red-brick, Neo-Renaissance buildings were designed by PJH Cuypers (the man behind the Rijksmuseum) and Al van Gendt, who designed the Concertgebouw.
