If you're the kind of budget traveler for whom "budget" is a priority and not merely a preference, then the Hotel Epidavros, despite its uninspiring location and uninspired décor, is worth considering. The Epidavros is located in one of the less-desirable neighborhoods of Athens' city center, near Omonia Square. However, its rates are hard to beat, and the 54-room hotel has easy access to great public transportation options.
Bedrooms are clean and uncluttered with bare wood furnishings and plain sand-colored curtains and bedspreads. Accompanying bathrooms are small and stark, but at least they're all en suite (some come with bathtubs) and spotlessly clean.
You can access the Internet in the lobby using pre-paid cards or with your own computer. And the Epidavros is one of the few budget hotels in Athens with free Wireless Internet access in all its rooms.
The included buffet breakfast consists of breads, jams, cakes, cheeses, ham, eggs, sausage, yogurt, honey, fruit, olives, juice, tea, and coffee.

About the Epidavros neighborhood
The gritty transit and commercial hub of Omonia Square is not Athens at its most quaint and ancient. In architectural terms, Omonia is other than charming. But there are plenty of quirky, even inspiring aspects of the area around Omonia Square. For one, there are oodles of ethnic restaurants and immigrant retail shops, giving the area a bit of an international vibe. There's also the mindblowing Central Market, featuring stall upon stall of a dizzying range of goods. While Omonia is a convenient 'hood for cheap sleeps and international fare, keep in mind the area can get a bit sketchy at night.
