The comfortable Hotel Achillion offers tastefully-decorated rooms without tastefully-decorated-room prices—it's a win-win combination. So what's the caveat? Well, the Achillion is near Omonia Square in one of the least-attractive parts of central Athens. Lucky then that it's quite an easy to walk or metro-ride to some of Athens' more inviting areas.
Nikos and the other folks who run the 63-room Achillion have created a friendly, warm, and peaceful atmosphere. Bedrooms, all with bathrooms en suite, are decorated in a simple, relaxed style with dark wood furniture and pleasing color palettes: some rooms are decorated in cool, calming blue hues, while others boast warm, rich oranges and browns
Recently renovated and equipped with many modern amenities, the Achillion has card keys that must be inserted near the door to activate the electricity—a cost-effective and earth-friendly way of keeping guests from wasting energy. Sound-proofed, double-paned windows thoroughly block out the street noise, and air-conditioning cools the entire hotel. And every room has a mini-fridge, so don't worry about wasting the mass of food you'll be served in the local tavernas. You can bring it home for a late-night snack!
All bathrooms are lined with gold-accented tiles and shimmering shower curtains. Some have bathtubs; others have showers. If you have a preference, be sure to state it when making your reservation—which, by the way, you can do in Greek, English, French, or Italian.
