Tucked away behind an Asian rug shop, the 46-room, three-star Hotel Amazon gives you convenient access to the most appealing parts of central Athens but muffles both the noise and hassle.

The hotel's bedrooms are decked out in neutral earth tones with funky artwork on the walls. Expect the kind of rooms you would find in a business hotel, complete with soundproof windows and complimentary Wi-Fi. (The air conditioning, however, is centrally operated, meaning you can’t control the temp in your room without asking the staff.)

Tiled bathrooms are bright white and beige. They're also smaller than you would expect, particularly in contrast with the larger-than-average bedrooms. Still, they're adequate and very clean.

Leaving the hotel, you will smell baked goods and coffee from a nearby bakery and incense floating over from the tiny neighboring church. Finally, the Amazon's location makes it easy to travel by foot to just about anywhere in the center of town.
