Hotel Austria is located on the slope of Filopappus Hill, just down from the Tomb of Filopappus. It's a very basic, dependable tourist class hotel perched at the top of leafy Koukaki. For the record, there's nothing about Hotel Austria that reminds us of Austria in any way.
Hotel Austria's rooms are extremely average and on the compact side, with pressboard floors, newish desks and large mirrors, and medium-thick (this is Athens, after all!) comforters. Most of Hotel Austria's 39 rooms have nifty expansive balconies. Because the hotel is located in a particularly tranquil 'hood, even those rooms facing Mousson Street and the slope of Filopappus Hill should be pretty quiet. In a city with generally first-rate rooftop views, Austria's rooftop views are truly awesome. As the hotel is located at the top end of Koukaki, it offers great views of Athens.
An older crowd tends to stay at Hotel Austria, which may explain why the rates are slightly higher than many other hotels of a similar calibre.
