Unless you are tremendously attached to staying in a modern facility, the Hotel Kouros cannot be beaten in terms of value. Its 10 rooms are consistently booked for most of the year. Located on one of the quietest pedestrian streets of Plaka, within easy walking distance of all of ancient Athens' most appealing sites, historical landmark Hotel Kouros' cash-only room rates almost seem like a give-away.
But there has to be a trade-off, and there is. Each bedroom at the Kouros has a sink, but all bathrooms are shared. And while these are relatively well-maintained, they're still the kind of bathrooms you'll want to get quickly in and then out of—no lure whatsoever.
Bedrooms themselves have a certain appeal: But you must be OK with cabin-like sleeping arrangements, complete with blankets reminiscent of summer camp. This makes for an interesting juxtaposition with the crown molding and elaborately detailed woodwork on the high ceilings, as well as the floral or cloud-like wallpaper. At least windows, which welcome bright natural light, let plenty of fresh air into the spacious rooms.
The Kouros does not have an elevator, and the stairs are steep. So be prepared to huff and puff your own luggage up to the rooms.

About the Hotel Kouros neighborhood
Plaka is the heart of tourist Athens. Its dense, atmospheric alleys are packed with tavernas, tourist traps, and gorgeous ancient structures. Adrianou is the main strip, but the highly touristed nature of Plaka permeates most corners of the neighborhood. While its main characteristic is its tourist-oriented nature, those committed to hunting around will find a comfortable few blocks of stylish cafés, specialty shops, and government buildings tucked in between the tourist shops, churches, and ancient sites. Plaka is closest to the Syntagma metro station, which is located beneath Syntagma Square.
