Hotel Metropolis

Centrally located just two blocks of Syntagma Square, the two-star Hotel Metropolis has low rates and a friendly vibe. It is not, however, a place rich in aesthetics.

Rooms have beige walls, run-of-the-mill beds, wardrobes, bedspreads, and desks, all of which serve their utilitarian purposes without bothering themselves with style. While quite clean, rooms could use a bit of renovating. All are equipped with air conditioning, direct dial phones, and television, as well as free Wi-Fi.

Baths are tiny but clean, and there are also even cheaper rooms with shared baths. But be warned: There is only one bathroom for the shared rooms. It’s kept clean, but you may find yourself in line for the shower.

The art deco exterior is bedecked with a multistory wall of lush bougainvillea. Several balconies consequently feel like gardens, and potted plants accompany the colorful florals. The cool art deco style of the exterior extends to the cute little peach-and-cream reception area, tucked into a marble stairway.

The highlight here is the rooftop garden with amazing views of the Metropolis.
