Situated on the western side of the Ramblas near Metro Liceu, the Gran Teatre de Liceu (or simply “Liceu”) is the city’s main opera house and dates back to 1847. The current theater was built in 1861, although it has withstood a bombing (in 1893) and another fire (in 1994).
Today’s theater has been beautifully restored and offers daily tours (including a chance to stand and reflect in the Salon of Mirrors). Visit the Liceu's Web site for information on tickets and tours.
