As far as the Berlin “art hotel” scene goes, the three-star Charlottenburger Hof ranks as one of the most unpretentious in the group. Art and “concepts” are everywhere in this 40-room hotel—hanging in the hallways, the lobby, and all over the rooms. At the Charlottenburger Hof, the paintings are prints, and the frames are plastic. But hey, they're not out to intimidate you!
The Art Hotel Charlottenburger Hof devotes each floor to a different artist: The Kandinsky floor is filled with geometric designs. The Miro has mobiles a-hangin’. The Dali sports a giant egg lamp. And the hand-painted, often humorous, hallway homages are certain to impress.
Rooms are bright and colorful, reflecting the blue, yellow, and red primary color scheme of the hotel, and feature simply framed prints of the floor's featured artist. Curtains and carpets are a deep blue and furnishings seem fresh out of the box. Baths are un-renovated and pretty standard, though clean and acceptable. Standard rooms aren't spacious, though deluxe rooms are larger, often with balconies and Jacuzzi baths. All rooms have computers with free Internet access.
The Art Hotel Charlottenburger Hof is upbeat and independent. We think it makes a fine choice for budget-conscious art lovers wishing to stay in Charlottenburg (for an even better deal, check out their off-season room rates). Plus, it's super-convenient: the hotel is a short distance from the Charlottenburg Bahnhof and a taxi stand.
