Set back off Grunbergerstrasse and around the corner from busy Warschauerstrasse, the newly opened Hotel 26 offers 18 three-star rooms that are so fresh they sparkle. The hotel is housed in a peach-colored modern building (circa 2003) and shares space with design and architecture firms.
With attractive sofas, hardwood floors, a comfy Mediterranean-themed café and expansive windows, the Hotel 26's lobby is all Scandi design. Upstairs in the 18 rooms, it's IKEA all over again (we recognized the lamp from our own apartment), with handsome birch-veneer beds and wicker easy chairs. The bath is nicely tiled and sports some contemporary flair of its own.
The Hotel 26 is environmentally conscious, as well. Breakfast on the patio is earth-friendly: Eggs are free-range. Meats are carefully selected. Juices are freshly squeezed. All soaps are made from plant products, and the tap water is purified in-house. (The environmentally-friendly feel extends to in-hotel transportation: there's no elevator, so get your feet moving!)You can't get that at IKEA!
