Hotel 26 is a small hotel with a serene location off Grünbergerstrasse, minutes by foot from Communist-era Karl Marx Allee, the hip, bar-lined Boxhaganer Kiez, and a streetcar and U-bahn stop. Personal service and a devotion to all things organic—from the soap in the bathrooms to the eggs in the breakfast buffet—add distinction to this straightforward accommodation.
The 18 singles, doubles, and twins are IKEA-clad (from the bedside lamps to the glasses in the bathroom), except for the excellent mattresses and bed frames. The carpeted rooms show evidence of wear-and-tear, including slightly scuffed walls and worn furniture, but they are nonetheless very clean, well-lit, and blissfully quiet. Expect a massive closet, a built-in desk, a chair or stool, TV, and a lamp or two. Tidy white tile bathrooms feature hairdryers. If you’re traveling with a group or a family, book the hotel’s massive in-house apartment with a full kitchen.
The high-ceilinged lobby doubles as Café 26, where you can unwind with an afternoon coffee, evening drink, or small snack. The lobby-café-bar area overlooks a small garden.

About the Hotel 26 neighborhood
South of Prenzlauer Berg, Friedrichshain is young and edgy, with a good art scene. While Friedrichshain is not as densely hipstery as Prenzlauer Berg, it has a distinctly bohemian vibe. The neighborhood's culture is thrown into relief by the neighborhood's stark Soviet-reminiscent architecture. A Sunday flea market at Boxhagener Platz only reinforces the hood's hipster credentials. Friedrichshain is bisected by the mammoth Karl-Marx-Allee.
