The Hotel Alexander dishes up 18 rooms with late '80s style that is so well preserved it could be a hipster art exhibit. Guests who appreciate black metal furniture, red carpets, gray walls, and decorative triangular designs will appreciate what the Alexander has in store for them.
Eve Kuhn took over the hotel in August 2005, and she is no stranger to good budget accommodation, as she also runs the Pension Alexandra in Charlottenburg (which we also review). Eve has been a powerhouse since day one, restoring rooms with new carpets and new paint and adding personal touches, such as fresh roses, to the lobby. All furniture, designed in the late '90s by a local artist, celebrates the era. For instance, in one room an imposing black iron wardrobe sits next to metal piping chairs and slick glass tabletops. So awesome.
The hotel is spread over two floors. We preferred the brighter top floor, where two rooms have balconies, to the darker, though more peaceful, ground floor. Baths throughout are spic and span, tiled and fresh.
The Alexander is conveniently located on pretty Pariserstrasse, two blocks from the K'damm.
