Rooms

The Hotel Art-Nouveau takes its name seriously. Guest rooms are, um, artfully decorated in entirely distinct styles, with hardwood floors, massive modern photographs and prints, and antique furnishings acting as the common threads. The effect is masterful enough to render the low-brow pieces (like the translucent plastic trash bins) fresh and even exciting.

Each room is equipped with a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi. The private bathrooms are small but pretty.

Hotel

An understated, modern townhouse atmosphere abounds throughout the Hotel Art-Nouveau. The stunning building which houses it is packed with gorgeous details, from glittery chandeliers to intricate antique door handles. The hotel aims to capture the “flair of Berlin” and does so with aplomb, balancing old and new to charming effect.

Works from local artists are sprinkled throughout, and the hotel also holds rotating exhibits. The breakfast room manages to feel simultaneously refined and flashy, and the attached bar operates on an honor system, offering treats and providing a small area for food preparation. On top of all this, an extra-friendly staff makes the Hotel Art-Nouveau a place where guests can truly feel at home.

Value

This is not what we’d call a “cheap hotel,” especially in Berlin, where acceptable options in the €40-€60 range abound. But the Art-Nouveau is an Editor’s Pick because of that something extra (and then some) that makes it not just a hotel but an experience. The beautiful rooms, exceptionally friendly service and special touches (like a delicious breakfast), make this spot worthy of a splurge for those looking for a something special. And although it doesn’t happen as often as we’d like, rates sometimes drop into more standard Cheapo territory, making the place a definite deal for all that it has to offer.
