Located in a turn-of-the-century Charlottenburg townhouse, the unassuming Pension Atlanta has a lot to offer budget-minded visitors. Its location on gorgeous Fasanenstrasse, steps away from Kufürstendamm and the Uhlandstrasse U-bahn, station makes it central and convenient. Its hodgepodge of 30 lovingly maintained rooms makes it practical. Add reasonable rates and a sizeable breakfast buffet—and you have a deal.
Like at most pensions, the en suite rooms are diverse in size, style and layout. We liked the recently refurbished rooms with a sophisticated blue and peach color scheme. With desks and chairs, big armoires, thick curtains, and a smattering of artwork, rooms are well outfitted and clean. Some doubles boast "fauxtiques" and balconies, while others are big enough for a full-size pullout couch. Singletons should be warned that some single rooms are a scant 86 square feet. Rooms for three or four people are also available.
A flat-screen TV, a lone computer terminal, and a set of leather couches occupy the simple lounge directly across from the check-in desk (and next door to the breakfast room).

About the Atlanta neighborhood
The Kufürstendamm, or Ku'Damm, is Berlin's major shopping boulevard, the commercial heart of the former West Berlin. It features the utterly massive KaDeWe department store and about three million other retail experiences. Ok, we exaggerate, but not by much. For our purposes here, we claim hotels within a block or two of the Ku'Damm as "near." To the north is Charlottenburg and to the south is Wilmersdorf.
