Situated in a regal mansion, the 19-room Pension Modena is a value-packed find steps away from Ku’Damm’s schmanciest block. This spot is cheerful, practical, and a bit less expensive than the Pension Dittberner, which sits upstairs. As long as you aren’t after memorable interior design, you'll appreciate this family-run operation for its clean and spacious rooms, gracious service, and close proximity to Ku’Damm’s most beautiful stretch.
Guestrooms are appointed with the basics: beds and bedside tables, armoires, table and chair combos, framed prints, and televisions. Details vary throughout: we weren’t crazy about the peach bed in one double, but the room was so pristinely clean and comfortable that it ultimately won us over. With high ceilings and strategic layouts, the single rooms are big enough to host small soirees. The white tile bathrooms are large enough to fit two people at the same time—a rarity in Berlin pensions.
The Modena’s wide hallways boast an array of oriental throw rugs, antique chairs, trunks, and other artifacts. The breakfast room feels modern with its polished wood floors and pine furniture.
Before booking, you should be aware that the closest transportation stops (the Adenauerplatz U-bahn an the Savignyplatz S-bahn) are about a half a mile away by foot.

About the Hotel-Pension Modena neighborhood
The Kufürstendamm, or Ku'Damm, is Berlin's major shopping boulevard, the commercial heart of the former West Berlin. It features the utterly massive KaDeWe department store and about three million other retail experiences. Ok, we exaggerate, but not by much. For our purposes here, we claim hotels within a block or two of the Ku'Damm as "near." To the north is Charlottenburg and to the south is Wilmersdorf.
