June 16-19, 2012: Taste of Dublin Food Festival

The Taste of Dublin Food Festival is back for its seventh straight year from June 16th through June 19th. Located in gorgeous Iveagh Gardens, this outdoor festival offers the chance to sample bites from Dublin’s best restaurants and chefs.

A special guest in 2012 is chef Jamie Oliver who will be giving a live cooking demonstration. With two entertainment stages and a range of drinks, this event delivers a festive atmosphere.

June 16, 2012: Bloomsday

Every year June 16th is a very special day for literary enthusiasts. Bloomsday celebrates the work of Irish writer James Joyce. The celebration is named after one of Joyce’s most famous characters, Leopold Bloom from Ulysses. Throughout Dublin people are dressed up in Edwardian costumes, especially outside of the pub Davy Byrne’s that appears in the novel. Irish music, walking tours, and Joyce readings are all part of the festivities.

June 22-July 1, 2012: Dublin LGBTQ Pride Fest

The Dublin LGBTQ Pride Fest is scheduled for June 22nd through July 1st. One highlight of the festival is the Dublin Pride Parade on Saturday June 30th. This is the largest parade in Ireland after the St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Other fun festival events include concerts, art exhibitions, a dog show, a walking tour of historic gay Dublin, and more.

August 31-Sept. 2, 2012: Electric Picnic

One of the best music festivals of the year in Ireland is Electric Picnic. Though the festival takes place outside of Dublin in County Laois, many people also visit the capital city during the same trip. Scheduled for August 31st, September 1st, and September 2nd, this music festival includes a line-up with performers such as The Killers, Elbow, The Cure, Glen Hansard, and BellX1.
