Chateau du Bascou is located amidst the vineyards of the Gers in southwestern France, atop a hillside with commanding views stretching as far as the Pyrenees. The 19th century chateau offers three rooms at €74 per double room, including breakfast. The rooms are all beautifully decorated and named after little-known grape varietals—pinenc, manseng, and tannat—all of which are used for regional wines such as Madiran and Pacherenc de Vic Bilh.
Dinner is available for €20 a head, and must be reserved. Guests can relax in the pool at the chateau, tour the local wineries and armagnac distilleries, and discover the magnificent Abbaye de Flaran to the north.
Further afield are the beaches of Biarritz and St. Jean de Luz, around an hour and a half away. To get to the region from the UK, fly Ryanair to Pau airport from Stansted. From Paris, fly easyJet to Toulouse from Orly.
Chateau du Bascou is located in Bouzon-Gellenave 32290. Telephone: +33 (0)5 62 69 04 12.
