On Monday, we told you about the great ferry options offered by Hellenic Seaways. If you don’t find what you are looking for on the Hellenic Seaways Web site—after all, there are many Greek islands not serviced check out the Paleologos S.A. Shipping and Travel Enterprises site. It is very thorough, and if you have questions, you can relax. Paleologos customer service is a cut above.
We have used Paleologos to book ferries to Spetses and Kefalonia. We’ve received excellent service, as well as rates identical to those offered by the ferry companies themselves.
One caveat: you can book online, but you must do so far enough in advance for the company to send you your tickets. As Paleologos is a Crete-based company, it has no port-side office where you can pick up your tickets before boarding your ferry.
Some sites are picky based on spelling and the underlying rules of Greek grammar. On one, a search for ferries departing from Heraklion returned nothing. But just entering “Crete” turned up a schedule for a ferry departing from Heraklio. It could also have been listed under Iraklio or Iraklion.Your chances are often better if you’re just using the island name rather than the name of a town on the island. And remember that the name “Chora” applies to dozens of main towns on different islands – be sure the result is for the island you want. Still turning up nothing? Try alternate spellings.
