Perhaps in part because Paris has been a backdrop for so many films, it’s impossible to stroll through the city without occasionally believing you have wandered onto a movie set.
Cinemacity is a new free app produced by the city of Paris in conjunction with Arte TV that allows movie geeks to turn any Paris stroll into a cinematic walking tour by geolocalizing clips from some 400 films in the exact spots where they were shot. It includes many thematic walks centered around monuments, actors, or filmmakers. You can view a trailer for the app here.

About 900 films are shot in Paris every year, and the city also offers more than a dozen free self-guided walking tour film trail maps (in English and French) of recent popular Paris-themed movie locations including Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris,” the animated charmer “Ratatouille,” Martin Scorsese’s “Hugo Cabret” and “Rush Hour 3.”
