What could be better than good quality accommodations at low expense? Good quality accommodations for free everywhere you travel. W-w-what? Read on.

It’s called a home exchange. The best home exchange company we’ve discovered is Intervac. Intervac has been assisting people in their home exchange arrangements for over 50 years.

There is an annual fee to be an Intervac member, and the fee varies depending on where you live. In the United States, a basic annual membership costs $95; in Greece, the fee is €50, and in the UK the fee is £65. Once you pay the annual fee and have your application approved, you are welcome to arrange as many home exchanges as you like for a twelve-month period.

We have so far completed home exchanges through Intervac with folks in the U.S., Scotland, France, and Italy without complaint. No one has taken anything. The one item broken along the way has been replaced. We have even exchanged cars as well as homes.

Our calculus: Free accommodation + access to a kitchen = more money saved for more travel!
