When in Venice, it’s a Spritz. In Dijon, Kir’s the thing. And in Berlin?
Ask for a “Weisse mit Schuss.”
You probably won’t be surprised to discover that Berlin’s unique potent potable is 99% beer – a local brew called Berliner Weisse. So what’s the Schuss?
It’s up to you. There are two options: raspberry (“Himbeer”) or woodruff (“Waldmeister”). The latter is bright green and has a slightly herbal flavor.
How to enjoy your Weisse mit Schuss
Like any good regional cocktail, the Weisse mit Schuss is served in a special glass, highlighting the colorful flavor shots. Further, this is your only chance in the entire country to drink beer through a straw without anyone looking askance.

Most bars and restaurants readily serve the combination, generally at the same price as regular beer (€2.50-4). If you don’t see it on the menu, ask anyway.
The sweet drink makes a nice aperitif, but you may find that sharing one is just the right amount of local indulgence.

It certainly looks appealing and it sounds delicious to the taste, but I’m going to side with the Spritz for the time being, just until I can try a Weisse mit Schuss, of course
My Berlin-born wife is adamant: Berliner Weisse mit Schuss is strictly for tourists. It’s the surefire way of outing yourself as a visitor to the city. Not drunk by the locals.
Berlin, like the rest of Germany, is a Beer Lover’s Paradise! Just need to go down to the local supermarket to load up for the week! Or I like chilling out in some of the nice beer gardens there whilst washing down a bratwurst with a fine brew!
Dear Mr Travel Tart: iQue Bonita!!!!! You must be the Senor Travel Tart who was in the Berlino newspapers, the boyo who thought the currywurst came from India. No, no Antonio. Where did you find the beer gardens in Berlin.
