What can be said about Ibis Hotels, really? They seldom deviate from one another in any but the most minor stylistic ways. When Ibis Hotels hit the spot, they do so unremarkably; when they (however occasionally) miss the mark, it's usually because the chain maintains a certain standard at the expense of personality.
We arrived at the Ibis Bratislava Centrum very early, after a nearly sleepless night on a train and had to wait several hours for a hotel room. We understand that rooms have to be cleaned before they're ready for guests, but just a touch of kindness from the staff would have eased the pain.
While we have become unabashed fans of Ibis hotels in general we found the Ibis Bratislava Centrum to be a bit wanting. First off, it's time for a soft renovation. There was a bit of schmutz on our floor's hallway wallpaper, and the lifts were slow and unkempt. The exorbitant charge for Wi-Fi (over one-fifth of the nightly room rate!) was also a bit of a pain.
Those criticisms aside, the Ibis' 120 rooms are, of course, perfectly nice. Its location is fab, just outside Bratislava's bewitching Stare Mesto and across the street from the wonderfully simple
Chez David.
