Asiris

The two-star Hotel Asiris faces St. Gillis Church to the south, and offers 13 basic rooms at reasonable rates. We didn’t find the rooms overly charming, but the hotel is a solid value.

Four rooms face the picturesque church and square, while nine others overlook the hotel’s quiet garden. Rooms are equipped with all the basics, including cable TV and telephone. The furniture is simple wooden beds and tables. Most rooms are no-frills, although more expensive rooms have flat-screen TVs. Two rooms on the top floor offer postcard views, but they come with a climb. A family room can accommodate two adults and two children.

Downstairs, the breakfast room drips with antiques and chandeliers, drawing an extravagant contrast to the simple rooms. Similarly, the reception area is choc-a-bloc with bric-a-brac.
