The two-star Hotel de Pauw faces St. Gilles church on a quiet little square. Its brick façade is covered in vines and flowerboxes and six of its eight rooms face the church. And it's cheap, with doubles ranging from €75-85.
What’s the catch? They've kept it simple. Upstairs, each of the eight bedrooms sports a pretty French name (Rosalie, Valentine, Florence, Pauline, etc.), but otherwise the rooms aren't fancy. Furniture is modest and some rooms have bathtubs. The de Pauw doesn't have an elevator, so you’ll have to climb to the top floor, but we would opt for the hike, as the view of the church is worth it.
Breakfast is included in the rate. The de Pauw's owners also run the restaurant "Oud Handbogenhof" around the corner, specializing in fish, spare ribs and steaks.
Note: The Hotel de Pauw allows smoking in its rooms.

Located across the canal, just north of Markt Square, St. Gilles provides a calm escape from the traffic and tourists in Bruges' center and is named after St. Gilles Church.
