Combining two-star comfort with the hospitality of a family-run establishment, the Hotel La Legende is a sparkling gem in the heart of the city. Within a 10 minutes’ walk from major tourist attractions and train stations, it provides a good base for both tourists and business traveler.

La Legende’s 27 rooms are clean, albeit a bit basic. You won’t see designer furniture here, but the white-and-wooden motifs are quite attractive. The comfy beds and fluffy bedding are more than adequate, and each room comes with a TV and a mini-fridge. The cheaper back rooms tend to be cramped. The view of the charming back courtyard, which most rooms afford, provides serenity despite the central location. The bathrooms, with pink tiles and newish bathtubs, are squeaky clean.

Just steps from the busy rue de Lombard, La Legende provides a surprisingly tranquil respite from the city in its ivy-covered courtyard. The sliding door to the bright lobby may scream business hotel, but this a family affair. The Borgers-Jonot family has been running it for half a century, so they’ve mastered the art of hospitality—and know a lot about the city.

While not exactly a budget establishment, La Legende’s super-central location and spotlessness make it a good value, especially on weekends and in summer when prices take a nosedive. For those who want business hotel efficiency with personalized service, La Legende offers the best of the both worlds.
