The Caterina Hostel is a humble little place. A stay here offers budget access to all the tourist sights peppered along the Andrassy Ut and makes transportation a cinch; the Nyugati train station is close by.
The Catarina may be a straight-up hostel, but it's not a party place. The careful proprietors here, Catarina and Joe, keep things calm with a few rules. First off, alcohol is only allowed on special occasions and stag parties are not welcome.
The hostel occupies a pretty art deco-style building which encompasses a charming, verdant courtyard. Rooms are kept bright with white duvets and sheets. Bathrooms are strictly utilitarian (think filmy shower curtains), but spotless. A retro kitchen is all about 1950s efficiency, with teal cabinets and functional appliances. Washing machines are available on premises.
Breakfast consists of bread, jam, coffee, and tea—more or less the hostel standard. The breakfast area is also the common room, replete with an Internet station and a cork message board covered with flyers and posters.
The Catarina is also near the famous Muvesz art cinema and a 10-minute walk from the hip Liszt ter restaurant scene.
Credit cards are accepted, a rare feature for a hostel in Pest.

About the Caterina Hostel neighborhood
Surprisingly snazzy for a train station neighborhood, Terézváros lies just south of the Nyugati station, a glass showcase built by the Eiffel company. The Andrássy ut, the street some call the "Fifth Avenue of Budapest," lies on the south side, while Városliget, the large city park, borders the neighborhood's east side. Sights along the Andrássy include the Opera House and the House of Terror Museum. Gorgeous neo-classical mansions now serving as embassy headquarters add chic to the east side while the west side offers easy access to St. Stephen's Basilica and the central Deák tér Metro station.
