Caterina Hostel

The Caterina Hostel is a humble little place. A stay in one of Caterina’s dorms or simple privates offers budget access to all the tourist sights peppered along the Andrassy Ut.

The hostel offers private rooms in addition to six-, eight- and 10-bed dormitories, all of which are kept bright with white duvets and sheets. As is usual in hostels, room amenities are limited but Wi-Fi is free in all rooms. Bathrooms are strictly utilitarian (think flimsy shower curtains), but spotless.

The hostel occupies a pretty art deco-style building which encompasses a charming, verdant courtyard. A retro kitchen is all about 1950s efficiency, with teal cabinets and functional appliances. Washing machines are available on premises.

The Catarina may be a straight-up hostel, but it's not a party place. Catarina and Joe, the hostel’s proprietors, keep things calm with a few rules: Alcohol is only allowed on special occasions and stag parties are not welcome.

Complimentary breakfast consists of bread, jam, coffee, and tea—more or less the hostel standard. The breakfast area is also the common room, replete with an Internet station (which closes at midnight) and a cork message board covered with flyers and posters.

The Catarina is located near the Nyugati train station and the famous Muvesz art cinema and a 10-minute walk from the hip Liszt ter restaurant scene.

Credit cards are accepted, a rare feature for a hostel in Pest.
