Perched on a quiet pedestrian street off of the bustling Váci utca, the City Hotel Pilvax, part of the modern Taverna Hotels & Resorts chain, features numerous amenities at reasonable rates.
Thirty two rooms are functional, free of character, and hint at budget furniture showroom. Light, functional, balsa wood tables blend in with freshly painted museum-white walls. Chairs padded colorful fabric match up with lampshades.
At least the amenities are noteworthy: hearty buffet breakfast, radio, satellite TV, laundry service, and 24-hour reception are all included. And, the Pilvax was the only hotel we visited with its own outdoor café.
The Pilvax is within a ten-minute walk of the Hungarian National Musuem, the Central Synagogue, and the Inner City Parish Church. Metro stops are easily accessed.

About the City Pilvax neighborhood
Inside what used to be the old city wall, Belváros is located in the heart of Pest, Budapest's flat, eastern side. Small streets, constructed over a millennium ago, include the famous pedestrian Váci utca as well as the picturesque Belgrád Rakpart running along the east side of the Danube. Packed with tourist sights, including the Inner City Parish, the gorgeous Párizsi Udvar arcade, and the Klotild Palaces, the area is also, unfortunately, a haven for crimes both ordinary and extraordinary. Overpriced restaurants, souvenir shops, and female honey traps ply their wares.
