All-day espresso, a handful of computers, and beds without bunks help the Green Bridge Hostel stand out from the pack. First off, the location pretty much defines prime real estate in Budapest. A turn-of-the-last-century building one block from the Danube is about as desirable as it gets.
Past a worn building façade, under an entryway of peeling paint, and through a dark courtyard, the bright interior of The Green Bridge Hostel came as a pleasant surprise. After offering us an espresso, the proprietor showed us around.
Rooms have high ceilings and large windows. Curtains, walls, and bed covers come in vibrant primary colors and unlike other hostels, all rooms offer real beds. No bunks here. The place has the feel of a well-scrubbed college dorm fitted inside a centuries-old university.
Wired to a fault, the computer to bed ratio is 1:6. With free and easy Internet access, guests might just run the risk of spending long days inside. The extensive DVD library doesn't exactly force guests out the door, either. But with a location near the cafés of Váci utca and just 300 meters north of the The Great Market Hall, guests tend not to spend too much time inside these cozy quarters.
Note: This hostel offers well kept private apartments as well.
