Rosenborg Slot, or Rosenborg Castle, is a Dutch Renaissance style building constructed at the behest of Christian IV in the early 1600s. The castle, small for a Copenhagen castle, is open for tours. Remarkably, this area’s major attraction is not the castle but the dreamy, green parklands (Kongens Have, Østre Anlaeg, and Botanisk Have) that surround it. These undeniably lovely parks fill up on a warm summer days with locals taking naps, reading, picnicking, romancing, even juggling. The Statens Museum for Kunst (the State Art Gallery) sits on the eastern edge of Østre Anlaeg, offering a world-class collection of art works.
