Located on a happening stretch of Vesterbrogade, the Bertrams Guldsmeden offers 47 comfortable rooms with a sophisticated, eco-friendly feel. According to friendly owner Nicolas, the hotel's calm and down-to-earth vibe makes it a popular choice for travelers looking for a "kid-free break" in Copenhagen. (The manager explained to us that guests are encouraged to leave their children at home.)

Downstairs at the reception, you'll find wicker chairs decked out in cow prints and a large, pretty lamp evocative of a sea conch. Like its sister, the Carlton Guldsmeden, Bertrams is decorated with furnishings imported straight from Bali.

The exotic flavor is most evident in the rooms, where Persian rugs, rustic mirrors, and the occasional exposed beam will transport you to a cozy island retreat. All rooms are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, and superior rooms have either a bath tub or balcony (a few have both). The bathrooms are more modern, and boast organic toiletries made exclusively for the Guldsmeden chain.

Bertrams prides itself on its organic breakfast, available for an extra fee and served in the bright and cheery breakfast lounge. The pretty courtyard in back is a nice place to take in the atmosphere in warmer months.
