The three-star Clarion Collection Mayfair, located just a few blocks from Central Station, provides a swankier alternative the standard fare on Helgolandsgade, Copenhagen's unofficial "hotel row." While other hotels in this area get by on budget rates and prime location alone, this gem sings out its virtues in the form of eclectic décor and friendly hospitality.
The reception area is a work of art unto itself: the decorator responsible for the colorful blend of funky zebra print chairs, pink pillows, a green shag carpet, and tribal masks wins our respect for making so many different elements work so well together.
The 106 rooms have a similarly self-confident aesthetic. Décor in rooms ranges from earthy-toned "Turkish," to blue and green garden-flavored details, to simple pink or black and white. Rooms have soundproofed windows and sparkling clean bathrooms with spiffy gray tiling. Bathtubs are available in the suite rooms.
The Clarion Collection Mayfair stands out for its included breakfast and dinner buffets. The evening meal is an international mix of tapas and Danish-Asian fusion.

Central Station & Tivoli, Copenhagen, Denmark
About the Clarion Collection Hotel Mayfair neighborhood
The Central Station & Tivoli area is home to many of Copenhagen's main attractions. Trains to and from the airport can be caught at the Central Station (Hovedbanegarden). Though the neighborhood is quite safe, it can seem dodgy at night, when it morphs into Copenhagen's Red Light District.
