Situated on Strøget the famous pedestrian shopping street, and surrounded by local gay hot spots, the five-room Copenhagen Rainbow bed-and-breakfast is the place for those who like a little dungeon décor in their denizen.
Last time we checked-in with the Rainbow, host Kristian was kind enough to lead us around his bright, white lair. Now we know what you're thinking: "bright" and "white" aren't the usual adjectives associated with dungeons. But we're not talking about the kind of dungeon that comes with a dragon. Think touches of S-and-M instead.
In the lobby, industrial-grade steel tubing frames a velvet couch. Breakfast is served on polished anti-skid metal trays the size of hub caps. And throughout the shared spaces, Kristian and his partner Klavs, who live on site, display the colorful, contemporary works of local artists. (All pieces are for sale and exhibits change every few months.)
The five intimate rooms are on the simple side with a small sitting area, white bedding, queen-size beds, and brushed metal coffeemakers and lampshades. Only one of the five rooms is en suite; the rest share facilities in the hall.
The guest kitchen and laundry area sparkles, giving the impression of having never been touched by human hands. As a matter of fact, everything around the place is a blinding white with accents of silver, black, gray and purple. Kudos to whoever has been scrubbing.
Prices are the same whether used as a double or a single, and Friday and Saturday nights have a DKK150 surcharge. Finally, Kristian is prepared with maps, tips, and suggestions to help out any new boys in town.
