We spent three comfortable nights at the Hotel Nebo, also known as Missionhotellet Nebo in Danish. This 83-room Central Station pick is clean, simple, and convenient. We checked in late on a Sunday night after flying in from Stockholm. And though we were cranky from one too many shots of Swedish "snaps," getting here by train and foot was a breeze. As mentioned in our neighborhood guide, the Central Station area can get a touch dodgy at night. Ignore the nearby sex shops. This hotel isn't a speck seedy. As a matter of fact, the Missionhotellet Nebo is owned by a church!
The Nebo offers three classes of rooms: economy, standard, and executive. Economy rooms share showers and toilets in the hall, while standard rooms have facilities en suite. Executive rooms are the most spacious with wood floors and less Spartan décor (read: floral bedspreads and curtains).
We stayed in a double economy room with a comfortable bed, plain curtains, clean carpets, and fluffy white duvets. There wasn't much in the way of ambiance except for a lone Miró print, but the room was airy and pleasant. We only wish the bathroom floor didn't double as the shower floor. (Wet socks in the morning are a personal pet peeve).
The receptionists at the front desk were very helpful, obligingly taking down and delivering numerous messages between our staff reviewers. They can also assist with renting a bicycle, EuroCheapo's recommended way to see the city.
The single computer Internet station in the lobby usually requires waiting in line, but hey, it's free! Breakfast is the typical Scandinavian-style buffet, with cold cuts, cheese, toast, muesli, yogurt, and cereal. The breakfast room has smoking and non-smoking sides, though the smoke seems not to recognize this invisible boundary. |
