Don't be turned off by the artless blue and yellow light-up sign out front. The brown brick Abbott Lodge has a pleasant, homey atmosphere inside—a cut above many of the blah guesthouses lining Lower Gardiner Street.
Two years ago, two B&B's were combined to created the present-day guesthouse, which has three floors and 29 rooms. Though not classically "antique" or super stylish, the Abbott is definitely cheerful, and you can tell the place is well cared for.
Vibrant colors characterize the nicely furnished bedrooms, which have sturdy-but-sweet mahogany furnishings, pretty painted walls, and fresh, purple-and-pink printed bedding. Reminiscent of a country cottage, the apple-green breakfast room is done up in the same pleasant style. Nice prints hang in the hallways.
As for location, it's right up there with the rest of the Lower Gardiner crew: close to shopping, the Liffey, and, of course, not terribly far from the infamous Temple Bar scene.
