Barnacles Temple Bar House, as its name implies, is at the epicenter of turbocharged Temple Bar. Like a dormitory rising from narrow Temple Lane, Barnacles is a multi-story building with a quaint exterior.
Weekends are noisy, with hen and stag parties galore. During the week, when backpackers make the most typical guests, things quiet down a bit. Recognizing the hectic nature of the ‘hood, Barnacles Temple Bar House maintains tight and unyielding security. Happily, it avoids a curfew policy.
Inside, the hotel is a labyrinth, with narrow hallways and lounge spaces opening up seemingly out of the blue. The rooms themselves are simple and often very compact, some with skylights and others with views of the maze of alleys below. While these rooms will not be winning design awards anytime soon, yellow walls and light furniture keep things bright. We don't need to spend too much time on Barnacles’ unfortunate curtains, except to ask: how important are curtains in a hotel with rates this reasonable, located at the absolute center of Dublin?
