This one-star hotel sits among the cluster of restaurants and cafés near the Jardines de Murillo (Murillo's gardens), a six-minute walk from the Cathedral. The hotel's rates match those of a two- or three-star hotel, though appropriately so: The Hotel Puerta de Sevilla is top caliber. We recommend it to anyone who wants an upscale, aristocratic experience in the city's Medieval quarter.
Lilies of the Valley are the motif here, and they decorate every door, along with quotes from Spanish poems. Ask the staff to translate. The rooms are fancy, with hand-painted wood headboards, flat-screen TVs, and swinging reading lamps. In the bathrooms, there are his-and-hers sinks, French doors, and a mirrored shower door. (Forget about citrus air fresheners, there are orange trees outside.)
In addition to above average services, the hotel is socially aware, pledging donations to
Fundación Intervida, a non-profit organization that supports education for children of low-income families. Information on how to donate is available in every room.
If you're really into luxury, then ask for a room with a hydro-massage shower and view of the gardens. Upstairs there's a solarium and next door a sister restaurant, Tres de Oro.
Note: Room No. 15 has no windows.
