In Brief: Athens International Airport sits 20 km (about 12 miles) to the east of central Athens. Landing fees at Athens International are high, and consequently few of the airlines serving the airport are low-cost carriers. Some of the low-cost airlines bucking the trend include Air Berlin, easyJet, Vueling, and WizzAir Transportation: The Athens Airport is well-served by a Metro line as well as a suburban train line. The Metro costs €6 for a 30 minute journey; the suburban train takes about 30 minutes as well, and costs €8.
