There's an unmistakable family feel at Albergo Merlini, a top-floor one-star. We felt like one of the gang in no time.
Each of the 10, mid-sized rooms are done up with polished sandstone tiles, country-style quilts, and varied pieces of shabby antique furniture here and there. The effect: lakehouse meets Granny's spare bedroom.
Served on a terrace with a fab view, breakfast costs an extra €6. Treat yourself one morning, but skip down to the bar for the rest of your sojourn.
The Merlini is located on a relatively quiet strip of Via Faeza. Open-air market hustle, kebab stands, Asian mini-markets, and numerous coffee bars are just around the corner.
