During our visit to the Hotel Dali, some young guests requested a photo with its proprietors, Florentine natives Marco and Samantha. That about sums up this adorable one-star hotel. Situated a hop, skip and a prayer from the Duomo, the Dali is characterized by its low rates, great location and friendly owners.
Marco and Samantha know that their guests love art, so they’ve filled the Dali’s hallways and 10 guest rooms with old Tuscan maps and unique artwork (created by friends, former guests and Samantha herself). They’ve also thrown in antiques, comfy beds and a lending library. Rooms are outfitted with modern comforts, including air conditioning, a satellite television and mini-fridge.
Peach-colored bathrooms, private and shared, feature cute porthole mirrors. Rooms without bathrooms have small corner sinks and mirrors. (During our December 2010 visit, some bathrooms were undergoing a full renovation.)
Breakfast is included in the room rate. The common kitchen nook offers a microwave and free croissants (available all day). Though there is no Wi-Fi, guests can connect for free at the Internet station in the lobby. Oh, and the Dali offers free parking—unheard of in Florence!

About the Hotel Dali neighborhood
You can't miss Brunelleschi's magnificent dome atop the rosy marble Cathedral. It's the obvious central meeting point in Florence and the tourist hub of the city. Here, you're in the vicinity of practically everything: the Uffizi Museums, Palazzo della Signoria, the San Lorenzo Market and the Accademia. The big guns in Italian fashion are located along Via Tornabuoni and there are plenty of cafes and dining options.
