Just as we entered Hotel Enza, the electricity blew. No crisis ensued; in fact, if anything, the easygoing, efficient response of the staff left a positive impression. After a chuckle and a shout down the hall, things were up and running. The cause of the blown fuse, it turns out, was a construction job next door.
The 19-room Hotel Enza offers a familial brand of comfort. A massive volume of Dante's Divine Comedy sits in the lobby/lounge, along with an antique chess set and an aquarium. These little touches make this place oh so cozy, taking it from an average mid-range hotel to a truly homey one.
Rooms are a cute hodgepodge of varying shades of wood, with an overall antique feel. If the slightly motel-esque brass bed lamps don't really impress you, the blue carpet and bold brocade bedding likely will. Bathrooms are quite spacious and new, and done up with clean, white walls and tiles and tasteful paintings here and there.
On top of its fabulously central location in the heart the bustling San Lorenzo Market area, Hotel Enza is also a short walk to the Duomo and the Accademia. Considering that doubles max out at €80, we'd say it's a fabulous deal to boot.
