With an amazing location between the Santa Maria Novella train station and church—and with fantastic views of both—the simple, one-star Hotel Fiorentino offers freedom and accessibility to budget travelers.
The Fiorentino’s 13 rooms are medium-sized and simple, with white walls, colorful bedspreads, small TVs and splashy artwork. The general décor feels more hostel than hotel, but the utilitarian furniture is in good shape and the comforters are fluffy. Rooms are not air conditioned, but they do have fans. Second-floor rooms have balconies with views of either the church and cloisters or the train station plaza (ask ahead).
Almost all bathrooms are shared, large and clean. More expensive rooms have newer sinks and box showers en suite.
Wi-Fi and breakfast (in the room) are available, both for a small fee. Some room renovations were taking place during our December 2010 visit. Animal lovers will enjoy that the owner’s friendly golden retriever follows him everywhere.

About the Hotel Fiorentino neighborhood
Across the street from the train station, the area around Piazza Santa Maria Novella is perhaps the most varied neighborhood in the city. The dingier urban streets leading to the station get a lot of traffic while the other side of the grassy Piazza is quiet. Bordered by the river, the train station and the shopping street Via Tornabuoni, one thing is for sure: once you're here, you're no more than ten-minutes away from anything else.
